Reunion Weekend 2015

The annual reunion this summer was a bumper event with large groups from the 60s, 80s and 2000s joining the company assembled for dinner. Our guest speaker was Dr. Michael Gunton (BSc 1979), Creative Director, Natural History and Factual, BBC who gave a fascinating talk on the theme of curiosity and, for perhaps the first time at WHA dinner, featured a number of sound recordings of the natural world! The dinner concluded with the unveiling of Laurence Kell's portrait of our departing Warden by Mrs. Mary Prior, Lord Lieutenant of the City & County of Bristol and Pro-Chancellor of the University. Professor Rivers gave an excellent response to the unveiling paying tribute to his family and to Wills Hall.

On Sunday, following the Annual General Meeting, Canon Lisle Sharp (Wills 1952 -1954 BA 1955) took the Convocation chapel service and the Warden, Professor Julian Rivers (Wills 2009 - 2015, PhD 2004) preached. Following coffee Graham Mullan of the University of Bristol Spelæological Society delivered an enlightening lecture on the caves under the city in his talk 'Underground Bristol'.

Next year’s Reunion will take place on the weekend of 9th-10th July and our guest speaker will be Professor Hugh Brady, the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Bristol. We look forward to welcoming you back.

Bristol Reception 2015

The Bristol Reception is a great opportunity for members and guests to get together in the winter months over drinks and canapés in the warm and welcoming Warden's House at Wills Hall. The 2015 reception took place on Saturday, 7th February and once again, the Warden and Dr Rivers were excellent hosts, with all attending receiving a warm welcome and a much appreciated log fire on a wintery night. The relaxed and informal environment was an excellent opportunity for members from all generations to catch up and meet with current students and to enjoy the impressive surrounds of the Warden's House. Our thanks to John Walsby-Tickle and Katherine Miles for organising another successful event.

Bristol Reception 2014

The Wills Hall Association Bristol Reception was held in the Warden’s House on Saturday 1st February. It was wonderful to see some familiar faces, and some new ones, at the annual event which was attended by 30 guests. All braved the wintry weather to attend and received a warm welcome on arrival, not least by the roaring log fire! The Bristol Reception provides an opportunity for ex-members of Wills Hall to meet and catch-up over drinks and canapés in more relaxed environs in comparison to the formal reunion dinner held in the summer. Many attendees, who as students did not get the opportunity to enter the Warden’s House, enjoyed seeing Wills Hall from a slightly different viewpoint on returning to Hall!

Many thanks to the Warden and his family for again hosting this enjoyable event.

Date: 1st February 2014
